What's new in the studio for 2025?

One month of 2025 is gone already – so quick! January is fairly quiet in the town, the tourist season will not start for a few more weeks. But the gallery has been open for business and we’ve been planning for the rest of the year.

Angus’s career break is continuing and this month, our ceramics classes have restarted in earnest. Our Make a Sgraffito Vase workshop went well and now we’re looking forward to seeing what comes out of the kiln.

And our latest Clay Club students are getting stuck in. They’ll be learning a range of skills over the next few weeks and hopefully going home with a host of handmade pieces by the end of the right-week course.

We’ll be adding more dates to the schedule very soon but you can also book a place on our Pinch Pot Quaich class (try saying that quickly!). This is a short workshop that will see you handbuild a pinch pot with handles - perfect for a wee dram!

New Art

We hosted Esther Tyson as resident artist for January again. Esther is an acclaimed wildlife artist and we were delighted that she brought some amazing paintings of barn owls to the gallery. She spent weeks watching a pair of juveniles, observing and sketching before putting paint to paper. The results are amazing – a collection of beautiful paintings.

We are even lucky enough to have some of Esther’s red squirrel paintings that she completed in our own wee studio! Pop in to see them for yourself.

Campbell Bryson

We also have beautiful new works by Campbell Bryson, always a favourite among our visitors. Campbell has been painting his acclaimed birch trees again and the results are spectacular. We’re also delighted that Campbell and Angus will be exhibiting work together at the studio later in the year – stay tuned for more information on that show soon.
