Stephen Redpath

Stephen Redpath lives in Tarland, Aberdeenshire, however, he grew up in west Wales. Here, he developed a deep and abiding love was for the natural world. This led to a career studying wildlife and landscape as an ecologist for 35 years, before focussing on painting in 2019. Stephen completed the portfolio course at Bridge House Art in Ullapool in 2021 and now spends time in the field or in his studio.

His work explores the inter-relationships between landscape and emotion. He draws inspiration from the wild, multi-layered landscapes of northern Scotland, building on direct observation, memories and emotional responses. His expressive watercolour paintings invite the viewer to reflect and explore their own experiences and emotional connection to these precious places.

Stephen's paintings have been selected for annual shows of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour in Edinburgh, the Royal Watercolour Society in London, and the Royal Institute for Painters in Watercolour in London. He won the RI Baohong Paper award in 2025 and the RSW Watermark Award in 2026.
