Helen Bruce

Helen Bruce was born in Grantown-on-Spey but now lives in Banchory, Deeside. She studied at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, graduating in Fine Art—Printmaking. She spent her career teaching art and design in secondary schools and adult education.

Helen says that her part of north-east Scotland provides a rich and varied landscape and coastline from which she can interpret and record the changing seasons. Connecting with nature is important for her - sketching and painting en plein air beside a wee burn or on a coastal path establishes a sense of place, never to be comforted by the familiar but to see new with each visit.

Helen works mostly in oil paint (occasionally in acrylics) and her work shows in galleries throughout the North of Scotland. She also delivers workshops in a variety of drawing and painting techniques.
