Ally Mackellar is a textile artist based on the west coast of Scotland. After graduating from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in Textile Design she initially worked as a woven textile designer before she transitioned into teaching. Her passion for art led her back to her creative roots and four years ago she made her dream move to Scotland.

Ally draws inspiration from the breathtaking landscapes that surround her. Her adventures in her little campervan take her through pine forests, along windswept beaches, across rugged mountains, and under dramatic stormy skies.

Ally's artwork captures fleeting moments in time. She gathers inspiration through sketches, paintings, and photography, which serve as references in her studio. Using layers of merino wool and textured yarns, she creates compositions of colour, contrast, and texture; translating the beauty of those moments into her wool paintings.
