Angus Grant
Angus Grant is a painter, craftsman, and teacher, living in the Cairngorms
National Park. He is the resident artist and creative force behind the Spey
Bank Studio, which he co-owns.
Angus’s work features the lochs, mountains and wildlife of the area. His
paintings are occupied with the dynamic interplay of light across these
landscapes, reflecting the ever-changing environment of the Cairngorms.
Angus is also a keen fisherman and enjoys exploring the landscape by kayak.
His time on the water is used to new views of his favourite spots. This passion
is evident in his paintings, which sometimes seek to reveal the world below the
surface as well as above.
Angus studied art at Central St Martins School of Art, before studying
jewellery design at Middlesex University. Here, he specialised in
Japanese-style carving and acrylic. He taught Western Jewellery Design at the
National Institute of Jewellery Design in Gujarat. After graduation, he worked
as a production jeweller for jewellery designer Kirt Holmes in London.
He returned to the Highlands in the early 2000s to start his own jewellery
business, selling directly to retailers and to customers at craft markets
across Scotland.
Angus is also an art and design teacher in Grantown and a visiting
specialist teacher, offering ceramics and printmaking workshops.
He has also undertaken many community and public art projects, independently
and collaboratively with young people. One recent project as as art consultant on the
Badenoch and Strathspey Community Hospital in Aviemore.
