Meet the Makers: Spey Bank Studio on tour!

We don’t really want to say the word but when the schools goes back, the only thing we can think about is Christmas.

The second half of the year is dominated by the lead-up to the festive period, with production ramping up to keep the shelves stocked after summer.

For us, it also means a packed calendar of craft markets across the north and north-east. Angus will be manning the stall in a range of beautiful venues, bringing you his new range of porcelain jewellery, as well as art prints.

Craft markets are a great chance to make new connections and introduce ourselves to new customer further afield. These events bring together a wide range of food, drink and craft producers from across Scotland and we also take the opportunity to look out for new artists for the studio.

Open Studios

But in September, we’re sticking close to home with the return of North East Open Studios.

This long-running event involves 300 artists opening up their studios to the public for 10 days. That means you can delve into their practice, see their materials and where they spend their days producing amazing artwork.

The event runs from September 13-21, with each artist keeping different opening hours – check the wee yellow book (available from us!) or check the website entries.

Brodie Birss

This year, as well as Angus’s work, we will be hosting a young local glass artist, Brodie Birss.

Brodie is a graduate of Gray’s School of Art, where she studied 3D design and specialised in glass and metal. She went onto attend Bishopsland Educational Trust, which provides postgraduate education in silversmithing. Since returning to Scotland, Brodie has continued to develop her glass and silver practice.

Her work is inspired by nature, process and material. She believes that that working with our hands and immersing ourselves in nature is essential to mental and physical wellbeing.

We are delighted to welcome Brodie to the studio and can’t wait to see her work in display.

Events calendar

As ever, you can find our upcoming events on our Events and Workshops page. We have a calendar and strive to keep it up-to-date with everything that we’ve got going on.

But just for you, here is a list of our upcoming craft markets for the next few months.
