There's been a new face around the Spey Bank Studio lately and we'd like to introduce you to her.
This is Rebecca Rensner, our new graduate production manager. She'll be working with us throughout the year on various projects, mostly in our ceramics section.
Her year-long contract has been part-funded by HIE’s technology placement programme, which aims to help Highland businesses to improve their efficiency by introducing new technology. Rebecca has also joined Impact30, HIE’s business training programme for young business leaders.
This is a change of direction for Rebecca, who is a former pupil of Grantown Grammar School and was taught art and design by the Spey Bank Studio’s owner, Angus Grant. Ms Rensner studied neuroscience at St Andrews University and graduated with BSc in neuroscience from St Andrew's University in 2019, before completing her Masters there in 2021. She worked in the universities laboratories following graduation and also at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh.
Angus said: “We always hoped that the gallery could develop and provide full-time employment at some stage so we are thankful to Highlands and Islands Enterprise for helping us achieve that ambition so soon.

“We are delighted to welcome Rebecca into our team and she has already started mastering some of the techniques that we use in the pottery. She provides a fresh perspective on our work and processes, as well as enthusiasm and problem-solving skills.”
Rebecca said: “I am excited to return to Grantown and explore my creative side again. I loved art at school, especially drawing people and I hope to use that skill in my work with the Spey Bank Studio. I have already started designing jewellery and creating illustrations for ceramics.
“My scientific background will also be invaluable as the studio seeks to streamline its production processes.”
Say hi to Rebecca next time you're in!
